How is MELS CBD oil made?

An in-depth guide to the gentle process behind a premium full spectrum CBD oil

In a world where CBD products abound in the marketplace, it can be challenging to distinguish quality from quantity. Many consumers wonder: How is the CBD oil I’m using actually made? Is it pure, potent and free of unnecessary chemicals? At MELS Europe, we take this seriously.

We use the most advanced and gentle method to extract cannabinoids from the hemp plant – CO₂ extraction. This article dives deep into the process, from organic cultivation in European fields to the finished bottle of full-spectrum CBD oil. We explain why the choice of extraction method makes all the difference to purity, efficiency and health benefits.

What is CBD and why is the production method so important?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa). Unlike THC, CBD does not cause intoxication, but interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) – a network of receptors that regulate sleep, mood, pain, inflammation and the immune system.

CBD oil is made by extracting cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant, and then mixing the extract with a carrier oil for better absorption.

The two most common extraction methods are alcohol-based solvent extraction and CO₂ extraction. The choice affects everything from the purity of the end product to the preservation of the plant’s natural compounds. At MELS, we choose the CO₂ method because it yields a cleaner, more potent and full-spectrum oil – without solvent residues. This isn’t just a technical detail; it’s why MELS oils are considered some of the best in Europe.

Alcohol extraction: An outdated method

Alcohol extraction (often with ethanol) is one of the oldest and simplest methods. The process starts with the hemp plant material being soaked in alcohol, which extracts CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. The mixture is then heated to evaporate the alcohol and the oil is filtered to remove residues.

The advantage is that the method is relatively cheap and effective at extracting large quantities of cannabinoids. But there are clear disadvantages: Alcohol can leave microscopic residues in the oil, even after thorough filtration. These residues can affect taste, smell and – most importantly – health. In addition, the heat treatment during evaporation can destroy delicate terpenes and flavonoids, which contribute to the so-called “entourage effect” – the synergy between the plant’s natural substances that amplifies CBD’s effect.

Many cheap CBD oils on the market use variations of this method, but for those seeking premium quality, it’s not the best choice. Residual alcohol and reduced potency mean the product doesn’t deliver the full effect the body deserves.

CO₂ extraction: The gentle gold standard

MELS CBD oil is produced exclusively by CO₂ extraction – the most advanced, costly and environmentally friendly method available today. This technique is often referred to as supercritical CO₂ extraction because carbon dioxide (CO₂) is brought into a supercritical state – neither fully liquid nor gas – under precisely controlled pressure and temperature.

This is how the process works in practice:

  1. Preparation of the planting material: The hemp plants are grown organically outdoors in open European landscapes, without herbicides, chemical fertilizers or pesticides. MELS works directly with farmers to ensure that only the ripest flowers are harvested – often once a year, three days before and during the full moon, inspired by ancient principles to maximize medicinal compounds. The plants are naturally dried and ground into a fine powder.
  2. Extraction: The plant material is placed in extraction chambers where supercritical CO₂ is pumped through under high pressure (around 300-400 bar) and low temperature (around 30-60 °C). CO₂ acts as a solvent that releases cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids without breaking down the sensitive substances. The process is completely closed and CO₂ is recycled – making the method sustainable and environmentally friendly.
  3. Separation and refining: After extraction, the pressure is lowered and the CO₂ completely evaporates away, leaving a pure, waxy extract rich in CBD, CBDa, CBG, CBC and other cannabinoids. No chemicals or solvents are left behind.
  4. Blend with carrier oil: The pure extract is blended with organic MCT oil (from coconut) for better bioavailability. The MCT oil supports absorption through the mucous membranes, provides a mild taste and contributes to heart and brain health. The result is a full-spectrum (broad-spectrum) oil with the plant’s entire natural spectrum – known as the entourage effect.

The benefits are many: CO₂ extraction produces a purer and more concentrated oil, preserves terpenes (such as limonene and beta-caryophyllene) and flavonoids, and eliminates the risk of residues. That’s why MELS oils – such as Two Strain and Five Strain in concentrations of 10-40% – deliver maximum potency and efficacy. The method is more expensive, but the result is worth it: an oil that is 100% natural, organic and packed with plant wisdom.

How to make MELS CBD oil

Quality control and third-party testing

Regardless of the method, it is essential to choose products with documented quality. MELS always requires third-party lab reports confirming CBD content, absence of heavy metals, pesticides, mold and that the THC level is below 0.2% (in line with EU regulations). The reports are public and ensure that the label matches the content – no surprises.

The oils are continuously tested throughout the process, from soil to bottle. This is why customers report better sleep, reduced anxiety, less pain and increased energy. MELS oils are developed in collaboration with scientists and chemists, and the products are constantly upgraded to stay at the forefront.

Why choose MELS CBD oil?

When you buy MELS, you get more than just CBD. You get an oil created with love, respect for nature and scientific precision. It’s organic, sustainable, full spectrum and produced in Europe with direct traceability. Whether you choose Two Strain for daily use or Five Strain for a stronger effect, you’ll notice the difference in bio-uptake and well-being.

CBD is not a miracle drug, but a support for the body’s own balance. Start with 1-4 drops under the tongue, hold for 30-60 seconds and gradually increase. The effects build up over time – often after 2-4 weeks.

Choose quality – choose CO₂ extraction

Knowing how MELS CBD oil is made isn’t just about technology; it’s about trust. By choosing CO₂ extraction, you’re avoiding residues, preserving the plant’s full potential and supporting a sustainable future. In a market full of compromises, MELS is proof that it’s possible to get it right – from root to bottle.Do you have questions about the process or how CBD can fit into your everyday life?
